Dear Fellow Entrepreneur,
First of all, thank you very much for stopping by my site and reading my story.
As you already know, my name is Christian Weiss. I was born in 1976, and I was raised in a little town in northern Bavaria in Germany. I grew up in average circumstances, while my parents were running a retail store for shoes. As time went by, and the economic situation changed in the late 1980s, my father told me that he did not expect me to take over the business anymore. This must not have been an easy decision for him, because he was running a business that had been in our family for six generations. Bearing that in mind, I started thinking about what I would want to do after school.
A few years later, it became clear to me that I’d like to go to the university and study business management. So, right after one year of military service as a paratrooper (which was a duty at the time), I went to the university and started my higher education.
Being raised in a family retail business, I always liked being in touch with people and serving customers. So, it was no surprise that I started working part-time as a salesman at a local computer store to earn some extra money while I was studying.
When I finished my studies, I started working for a small IT company. But pretty soon after I had started with the company, I realized that the job had NOTHING to do with what my boss had described to me during the interview.
There I was! I had my degree, after spending a lot of time and money to get it, and I was sitting in a tiny room (yes, it did have a window), only making cold calls to prospects all day long!
You can imagine that I realized fairly soon that this could not be the reason why I’d invested so much time and effort into getting my diploma!
I was REALLY very dissatisfied with the whole situation. I had a job, which I didn’t like at all. I had moved to Munich, which is a very expensive city. And at the end of the month none of my money was left.
Time to make some changes!
Growing up in a retail environment and working in a retail business during my studies, I always thought I should go back to this industry. As I knew that one of my friends had started working for a big retail chain right after finishing his studies, I asked him whether he knew if the company still had some jobs to offer.
And his answer was: “Yes, of course. We are pretty dynamic and are always looking for good people. Give it a shot and apply!” So, I did. To keep a long story short, I got a new job with just one application in a matter of four weeks.
That was the beginning of my new retail career, and I started as a “Sales Manager Trainee.” After six months of training, I took over the responsibility for seven outlets and 85 employees. After two and a half years as a sales manager, I got an offer from the German headquarters. A few months later, I got promoted to “Head of Audit Germany.” In this staff department, I and my team were responsible for auditing 2,600 outlets all over Germany—30 regional companies and different departments of the headquarters.
After a successful time in this policy unit. I got another promotion and became “Sales Director” and “Attorney” for the Munich area, where I was responsible for 45+ outlets, 650+ employees and $400+ million in annual sales.
The next step
But despite all of the success, there came a day when my wife and I felt that it could not go on like this forever. As you can imagine a job like this can’t be done on a nine-to-five basis. I used to work 80+ hours from Monday to Saturday every single week. That was the reason why I decided to leave the company after more than seven years.
I took over the responsibility as the general manager for a family-driven bakery chain with 30 outlets and 280+ employees. Even when this job seemed to be my “dream” for quite a while, I had to learn very quickly that it didn’t work for my future.
Being very ambitious, I like to produce results with my work. That’s my spirit, and I am neither willing nor able to change that. When I started with the bakery, I realized very quickly that there’s a lot of work to do to make a company more efficient and to produce more cash flow. Unfortunately, the owners of the company were not willing to improve anything. They always said: “We have been doing this for over 20 years now, and it has always worked. And, we’ll be doing it for the next 20+ years as well!” Sounds crazy— right? It is, but that’s the truth!
I already told you that I am very ambitious and results-oriented. That’s why my wife and I decided that I should quit the bakery job and start my own business as a business consultant.
My path as an entrepreneur
In August 2008, I started my own business as a business and HR consultant. The business developed well, and I was quite busy working on my own. But there was one thing missing! I had just overlooked one important step by starting my own business as a consultant. As I didn’t want to have any employees anymore, I was working on my own, but I still did exchange my time for the money of my clients—as every employee does. That means that I was only able to make money while I was physically working either at my client’s place or in my office. If I would get sick or go on vacation, my only income stream would stop producing money.
I didn’t like that idea of being a slave to myself, and I started to think about a solution. As we had just built our own house, there was no money left over for setting up another company. I still remember the day when I told my wife that there must be a possibility to set up a system/business without investing a fortune. At that time, I didn’t even know that network marketing existed—and even what it was.
Obviously, the universe heard my wish and brought me in touch with this industry. To be honest with you, the first time I got introduced to this industry, I just thought: “Sorry guys, this is not for me!” But what caught my interest was the opportunity to build a residual income and to realize some leverage with this kind of business.
Then I started researching the Internet trying to learn about this industry, called MLM, Network Marketing or Referral Marketing. And quite quickly, I learned that this is one of the fairest industries on the planet. Why? Well, because your personal commitment won’t be rewarded any better in another industry!
A different approach
But unlike 99.9 percent of the people in this industry, I was looking for a different approach! Due to my really classic career in the retail arena and as the general manager of a bakery chain, I was used to working 80+ hours a week (Yes, also in the bakery-business, where I was working from Monday to Sunday!). This is the reason why the classic approach of network marketing, which means talking to friends and family (I have a really small family) didn’t work for me because my social environment was pretty small.
One day, I had the idea that it would be the perfect business if I would be able to combine classic network marketing with state of the art online marketing. With this approach, I could benefit from the residual income in the network-marketing industry and the leverage of the Internet.
I started to educate myself extensively on online and social media marketing, although I had already spent well over $50,000 on this education in the past. This education allowed me to build a powerful organization for my network marketing business not only locally, but in several different countries as well, all over the world.
Self-branding & the power of the Internet
Today, I am a full-time entrepreneur, working 100 percent online from wherever I am. The reason I am able to do this is because I have learned two important things during my journey as an entrepreneur:
- How to brand myself as a trusted authority, a leader and a highly respected coach and entrepreneur.
- How to use the Internet to build a very powerful international business.
Why do I tell you all this?
It’s really not an ego-thing, or that I want to show you how cool I am! But these two things I have discovered during my career in network marketing are the key to success, not only in this industry, but also in ANY business!
Today, there are more than 2,000,000,000 (2 billion) people on the Internet. Can you imagine how many of those might be interested in your products or services? I would say it’s way more potential customers and clients than you could ever handle.
